BABYBJÖRN Babysitter Balance Recall
BABYBJÖRN Babysitter Balance Recall
Why is BABYBJÖRN recalling the Babysitter Balance and Babysitter Balance Air?
There have been no incidents requiring a recall. BABYBJÖRN chose to voluntarily recall its Babysitter Balance and Babysitter Balance Air because there is a possibility that small and potentially sharp metal pieces may be found in the padded section of the fabric seat.
BABYBJÖRN is deeply committed to the health and safety of babies and young children. BABYBJÖRN felt it was best to conduct a voluntary recall of the product.
If there were no injuries how did you find out about the metal pieces?
BabySwede, the North American distributor, received notification from BABYBJÖRN AB, the manufacturer, that two consumers in Japan had found small metal pieces in the padded section of the Babysitter Balance's fabric seat. After further inspection by BABYBJÖRN AB of 15,000 Babysitter Balances, five more small metal pieces were found. As precaution, BabySwede and BABYBJÖRN are performing a voluntary recall of the product.
There have been NO reported incidents. BABYBJÖRN considers the overall risk low due to the very few objects found so far.
What is the safety concern?
A small piece of metal in the fabric may be sharp and cause someone to get hurt. If a metal piece were to be found in the fabric, it would have originated from the part of the fabric seat that wraps around the steel frame (the padding). However, because there is concern that the metal piece might move (Ex: when washing the fabric seat), BABYBJÖRN has decided to conduct a voluntary recall as a precaution.
Where were the Babysitter Balances made?
The fabric seat is made in Turkey. Product assembly is conducted in Sweden.
Have any children been injured from using the Babysitter Balance?
There have been absolutely no injuries reported anywhere in the world.
Have you stopped production?
BABYBJÖRN has not stopped production of the BABYBJÖRN® Babysitter Balances. BABYBJÖRN has reviewed all quality control routines to guarantee that ALL Babysitter Balances are inspected before and after sewing, as well as before they leave the warehouse. As of June 24, 2009, every fabric seat has been scanned with a metal detector before leaving the warehouse.
What happens once I send in my Babysitter Balance?
BabySwede LLC will inspect all Babysitters for metal pieces using a metal detector. If nothing is found, a label will be affixed to the bottom of the footboard to indicate that it has been tested, updated warning labels will be attached to the top of the footboard, and your babysitter will be shipped back to you safe to use. If something is found during the inspection, a brand new babysitter will be shipped to you.
How do I know that a babysitter is inspected?
If your babysitter includes any or all of the following three markings you know that it has been inspected for safe use.
1. The retail box will be marked with a small, round green sticker (located right next to the bar code).

2. A small, round green sticker will be affixed on the bottom of the footboard.

3. The date of manufacturing label attached to the fabric seat cover will be punched with a small round hole. (The date of manufacturing label is located under the care label).
