BABYBJÖRN®

SAFETY IN PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Since the founding of BABYBJÖRN in1961, the safety and health of small children has been its top priority. BABYBJÖRN wants parents to feel confident that they are buying not only functional and stylish products but— more importantly— safety tested, quality products.

That's why BABYBJÖRN works closely with families, industrial designers, testing institutes and medical experts to meet rigorous safety standards. This chain of screeners must approve every product before it is released.

BABYBJÖRN Plastics

All BABYBJÖRN Kitchen and Bathroom products are tested by Specialized Technology Resources (STR), an independent global provider of quality assurance testing.

Materials that come into contact with food are FDA-approved for food use and are tested lead-free, PVC-free, phthalates-free and BPA-free.

In fact, all BABYBJÖRN products with a plastic component are free of Bisphenol-A (BPA).

BPA is an industrial chemical used to manufacture polycarbonate plastic. Polycarbonate plastic has caused considerable controversy because it has been proven to leach BPA. Recent studies by health organizations such as the National Institute of Health have raised concerns about the safety of BPA.

Polycarbonate plastic is not used in the production of any BABYBJÖRN baby products.

More specifically, the plate is made of ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic, which is certified BPA-free.

While both polycarbonate and ABS plastics, along with other plastics, have a recycling designation of "7", there is no known health risk associated with ABS.

BABYBJÖRN Textiles

Because the skin of babies and small children is more sensitive than the skin of adults, BABYBJÖRN works to ensure that its textiles are free of harmful substances.

All BABYBJÖRN products with a textile component that comes into contact with baby's skin are certified to the most rigorous Class 1 criteria of the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, an international safety standard for textiles (www.oekotex.com.)

Oeko-Tex certifies that materials do not contain more than the accepted levels of certain heavy metals, carcinogenic and allergenic substances known to pose a health risk. All BABYBJÖRN textiles also have pH values within the prescribed skin-friendly range, and all dyes and prints used on BABYBJÖRN fabrics are saliva-fast. This means parents can feel confident that if their babies chew or suck on the fabric they are not ingesting anything that could be harmful to their health.
